About

The ALiSEA Knowledge Hub is an open-access online platform that consolidates and shares resources, expertise, and practical information on agroecology in the Mekong Region. It offers a collection of knowledge products, a document library, maps, data visualizations, and a directory of agroecology experts with content available in English and national languages.

Context

A major obstacle in advancing agroecology in the Mekong Region is the lack of evidence on the benefits of agroecological practices. This makes it difficult to convince policymakers, consumers, and farmers of its potential. The scarcity of resources in national languages further hinders the dissemination and understanding of agroecology and contributes to the reluctance of key stakeholders to embrace agroecology as a viable path toward sustainable development.

Aim

The ALiSEA Knowledge Hub aims to become the leading knowledge resource on agroecology in the Mekong Region. It seeks to facilitate knowledge-sharing and increase the visibility of local and national experience and insights. By promoting a diverse range of knowledge, the hub aspires to inspire stakeholders and foster networking among all actors interested or involved in agroecology.

Structure

The ALiSEA Knowledge Hub includes five main pages, each providing a specific type of knowledge:

  • Insights: this page is a curated collection of briefs, technical leaflets, and videos on various aspects of agroecology. Insights are searchable according to type, country and agroecological themes addressed. Some insights are georeferenced and can be viewed in the map explorer (see below).
  • Library: this is a broad collection of articles, reports, and other documents on agroecology and related topics. It is stored in a CKAN database organised in datasets. Each dataset can contain one or several documents. Multiple search filters allow users to find documents effectively.
  • Map Explorer: this is an interactive map interface allowing users to display various spatial layers, which include context layers (e.g. land cover types, land degradation, forest cover, etc.) and ALiSEA feature layers (e.g. locations of agroecological initiatives and actors).
  • Datablog: this is a tool to visualize research highlights and complex data in a simple way for a broad audience. Each post contains one interactive graph or figure and a short text both focusing on one key message or interesting fact about agroecology.
  • Experts: this is a database of agroecology experts in the Mekong Region. The database aims to foster exchange and networking among experts from different parts of the region and from different disciplines. ALiSEA members and non-members can register in the database.

Access

The ALiSEA Knowledge Hub is an open-access online resource that consolidates a wide range of knowledge, including scientific articles, testimonies, factsheets on best practices, practitioners’ experiences, and policy briefs, contributed by both members and non-members of the ALiSEA network. While most content is available in English, some resources are also offered in national languages.
