Van Tung Bui

Mr. Bui Van Tung is a researcher and field coordinator at the Northwest Agricultural and Forestry Research Centre, located in Son La Province. This research centre belongs to the Northern Mountainous Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (NOMAFSI) – VAAS – Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy (2012, Tay Bac University) and a Master of Science in Agriculture (2024, University of New England, Australia).

Since 2012, Mr. Tung has focused on Agroecology and Safe food system transition including: Agro-forestry, supporting VietGAP vegetables and safe fruit production and market linkages for small scale farmers, as well as improving soil fertility and soil erosion management on sloping land, addressing shortage of animal feed and forages, and facilitating crop diversification in Son La and Dien Bien provinces by implementing various projects funded by both domestic and international organizations such as ACIAR, GIZ, CIAT, and ILRI, CGIAR, CIRAD, PFR…

He also had a huge opportunity to engage closely with minority groups, including the Thai, Dao, and Hmong.. gaining a deep understanding of local farmer cultures, challenges, and expectations for improved livelihoods in the Northwest region of Vietnam.

Therefore, promoting sustainable farming practices through agroecology and circular agriculture to climate change adaptation and resilience, aiming to improve farmer living standards, is his passion
