Associate Professor Dao The Anh is a leading expert in agricultural sciences, rural development, agri-food economics, and sustainable agricultural systems. With a PhD in Rural, Agri-food and Agricultural Economics from France, he has accumulated extensive knowledge.
At the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS), he serves as Vice President, playing a significant role in guiding agricultural research. Previously, he was Deputy General Director of the Field Crops Research Institute and Director of the Centre for Agrarian System Research and Development. He is also President of the Vietnam Rural Development Science Association (PHANO) and a former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Vietnam Journal of Rural Development Sciences.
His expertise is demonstrated through research projects and consultancy services on public policy for family farming, connecting perishable foods to markets, and enhancing bioenergy sustainability. He is an international consultant for organizations like FAO, WB, Helvetas/IFAD, and GIZ, addressing issues from smallholder support to climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta.
His publications focus on peri-urban agriculture, the link between farmers, markets, and biodiversity, food safety, and rice farming commercialization. Recently, he has researched the transition to sustainable food systems and agroecology in Vietnam, as as priorities for inclusive urban food system transformations in the Global South
